The Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum came alive with excitement and laughter as visitors gathered to celebrate the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival. The annual event, which honors one of the most important traditions in Chinese culture, featured classic games, prizes, and cultural activities designed to bring families, friends, and visitors together in a joyful atmosphere.

Throughout the day, guests took part in a variety of games including the Chinese Dice Game (Bo Bing), card flip game, block image matching, and a coloring corner for kids. The museum’s halls were filled with cheers as participants tried their luck and enjoyed the friendly competition that has long been part of the festival’s heritage.

One of the most anticipated moments was the Bo Bing contest, a traditional dice game associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival. Participants rolled six dice in hopes of landing the winning combination for the first prize. With only a 0.08 percent chance of winning, the excitement grew with each turn until the museum finally celebrated a first-place winner, marking a highlight of this year’s festivities.

The Moon Festival at the Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum not only provided entertainment but also reflected the museum’s mission to keep Chinese-Filipino cultural heritage alive through interactive and educational experiences. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the meaning behind the games, the symbolism of the mooncake, and the spirit of reunion that defines the celebration.

To make the event accessible to more guests, the museum offered a special entrance fee of 80 pesos, discounted from the regular rate of 120 pesos. The rate included a guided museum tour and unlimited access to play all festival games. Regular discounts for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities also applied.

For those who missed the main celebration, the games and festivities will continue on the next opening days, Fridays to Sundays, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors can still join the fun, test their luck, and enjoy the museum’s vibrant cultural atmosphere.

The Mid-Autumn Festival remains one of the most symbolic celebrations in Chinese culture, emphasizing gratitude, unity, and shared joy under the full moon. By bringing these traditions to life through hands-on experiences, the Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum continues to build bridges between the past and present, nurturing appreciation for Cebu’s rich Chinese-Filipino heritage.
